Director's Message
The Center for Nanoscale Mechatronics & Manufacturing(CNMM) has strived to develop Korea’s own nanotechnology to be used to mass-produce affordable nano-products quickly. In 2007, Korea recorded 30 billion USD of exports in semiconductors alone. However, Korea imported semiconductor-related equipment worth 33.4 billion USD over the same period. The biggest culprit of the trade deficit in the semiconductor
sector is the lack of Korea’s own fundamental technology for semiconductor mass production, which necessitates imports of semiconductor-related equipment from overseas.
To overcome this limitation, The Center for Nanoscale Mechatronics & Manufacturing(CNMM), launched in July 2002, has focused on developing process technologies and equipment to produce nano-industrial parts ranging from 100nm to 10nm by combining nanotechnology with mechatronics technology. Our center has successfully developed process and equipment technology as well as measurement technology to manufacture 100nm-level 3D nanostructures in the 1st stage, 50nm-level 3D nanostructures in the 2nd stage, and 30nm-level 3D nanostructures in the 3rd stage as part of the center’s goal to develop the world’s best nano process and equipment, which will allow mass production of practical nano products in an affordable and environmentally-friendly manner.

During this process, the center has obtained world-class fundamental technologies including a
nanoimprint process, multi-layer nanoimprint equipment core fundamental technology,
carbon nanotube separation technology, nano injection molding, and 10nm-level
measurement source technology.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all participating researchers who have diligently
made research endeavors and those of you who have encouraged us to sustain our hope
during several hardships along the way.

I'd like to nurture a characteristic group culture for the success of this program.
I will set up environments to allow all research members to conduct self-motivated, interested, and valuable R&D works. Also, I will try to develop novel human network systems on which all all involved researchers can share their informations, values and interests by understanding and trusting each other. That will lead to formation of effective cooperation team work in CNMM.

I would like to call for your continued interests and supports for our center, and I promise that we will do our utmost to become a leader that will open the era of nano mass-production by developing world-class nano processes, equipment, and measurement technology. Thank you.
